Mohamed was born in 1971 in the town of Batley, West Yorkshire, where he still resides today. He is the youngest child of Ahmed and Hawa Saloo, who came to Britain from India in the 1960s, and has three children.
Despite having always had a love of poetry, it was as a thirteen-year-old that he remembers penning his first poem. But it was whilst studying Electronic Servicing at Huddersfield Technical College that Mohamed found the freedom to share his poetry with friends and where he was first encouraged to release a poetry collection.
His obsession with this written form grew throughout his student years, amassing a collection of thousands of poems since. Whether it was curated on a typewriter or dashed on a napkin or the back of a chocolate wrapper, Mohamed has never stopped writing or given up on his dream of sharing his work with others.
In 2013, Mohamed performed for the first time at a poetry reading as part of the Batley Festival. Inspired by this and subsequent readings he co-founded Batley Poets in 2014 to “create a platform for bedroom poets to share their poetry”.
He has performed with the Batley Poets and individually at several events over the years, including Poets in Parliament, the Big Batley Iftar, Poetry Jam at the Marsden Jazz Festival, at the launch of Wellsprings Together, Bench Poets and Kirklees Mayor’s Civic Ceremony. His passion for poetry has seen him deliver workshops to adults and schools inspiring more poets to realise their skill.
After being featured in a number of anthologies, in 2021 Mohamed released his first poetry collections, Batley Lad and Loss. In addition to poetry Mohamed has written short plays which have been performed at local venues.
