We were the electric youth Ready to redefine the rules Build a better way to live With a brand new set of tools Defeating the ‘isms’ of childhood That held our hopes back Changing mindsets to bring the train On to the right track We were powered by a fight Against all that was wrong Shared through the mediums Of sport, performance and song Breaking down the sickness of society The sexism, the racism, the hate The antagonist’s scrawl on the wall We thought was just a matter to wait That in our achievements, our success They would run out of their hateful calls Shown to be the evil that none would want We thought the ‘isms’ would fall We were the electric youth Ready to define the world’s way Seeing the destruction, the fear of hate To give birth to a better day We could see the ills the wrongs Of ‘isms’ even as a child Then why in this age that’s gone Are we still to wait a while We WERE the electric youth We did not achieve our aims Pick up the batten youth of today Run to change this shame.

We were change
