It's the darkness That falls heavy in loneliness Silence with a whisper of a breeze Occasionally broken By the mumble of passers by Or the fire of an exhaust Then silence Again Lost is the breathing That I listened to When sleep escaped my tired eyes. Was I to notice the detail The measure and rhythm Count the pauses between your chords This silence speaks louder Than the very noise in anger That filled the flowered walls of paper Who heard every obscenity Yelled in the rapture Of a less than amicable conversation Doors don't slam anymore Plates don't break Cups don't smash Just the silence With the hum of a breeze Layering over to provide atmosphere To this night’s Silence.
